Are you truly prepared for success? If you are than you must posses this one and only behavior.

The following story is the perfect example for this behavior.

One day the farmer Jack felt old and tired so, he was ready to pass his farm down to one of his two sons. When he brought his sons together to talk about it, he said: The farm will go to the younger son.
The older son was very mad! “What are you talking about?!” he fumed.
The father sat patiently, thinking.
“Okay,” the father said, “I need you to do something for me. We need more stocks. Will you go to John’s farm and see if he has any cows for sale?”
The older son shortly returned and reported, “Father, John has 6 cows for sale.”
The father thanked the older son for his work. He then turned to the other son and said, “I need you to do something for me. We need more cows. Will you go to John`s farm and see if he has any cows for sale?”
The younger son did as his father asked him. After a while, he returned and reported, “Father, John has 6 cows for sale. One cow will cost 1000 dollars . If we are thinking about buying more than 6 cows, John said he is willing to reduce the price 100 dollars. He also said they are getting special jersey cows next week if we are not in a hurry, it may be good to wait. But, if we need the cows urgently, John said he is ready to deliver the cows tomorrow.”

The father thanked the younger son for his work. He then turned to the older son and said, “That’s why your younger brother is getting the farm.”

Successful People Take Initiative

Most people just do what they are asked, doing only the minimum requirement. They usually need specific directions for most things they do.
On the other hand, people who become successful are anxiously engaged in a good cause. They don’t need to be managed in all things. They don’t just do the job, they do it right and complete it. They additionally impact the direction for how certain ideas and projects go. In particular, those who become successful take initiative.

They contact with other people, ask questions, make recommendations, offer to help, and share their ideas.
Being successful requires being proactive and not waiting for chances to come to you. It means you’re on offense, not defense. You’re active, not passive.

In every company, there are very few employees who would be difficult to replace. Generally, most people are like the older son in the story. Most people could be easily replaced. Most people are passive and reactive. They always need specific instructions. They need to be administered and managed in all tasks.

Initiation always involves some level of risk. You’re putting yourself out there and there is a possibility you could fail.
On the other hand, doing only what you’re told entails no risk and carries no responsibility. It’s playing safe.

So, think about it!

Are you an initiative person? You absolutely can be.

But if not, one thing is for certain: Life isn’t going to wait for you.
